Studienkolleg - Feststellungsprüfung - Assessment test

Foreign applicants who hold a foreign school-leaving certificate qualifying them for university entrance in their home country but which is not equivalent to the German Abitur, cannot enter university directly in Germany but must pass an examination assessing their aptitude for starting a degree programme at a German university (Prüfung zur Feststellung der Eignung ausländischer Studienbewerber für die Aufnahme eines Studiums an Hochschulen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland”, short: Feststellungsprüfung). The Studienkolleg prepares them for this examination. It offers specialised one-year preparatory courses that are oriented towards the linguistic and subject-specific needs of the prospective students.

Foreign applicants without a school-leaving certificate qualifying them for university entrance in their home country cannot be admitted to a Studienkolleg.

In the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, where Ulm is located, it is not possible to apply directly to a Studienkolleg. The application for admission to the Studienkolleg must be submitted for the desired study programme to the University, where the applicant wishes to take up academic studies upon completion of the Studienkolleg. There is no entitlement to assignment and admission to the Studienkolleg.

At Ulm University assignment to the Studienkolleg is only possible in the winter semester.

Application via www.uni-assist.de from 23 May to 15 July.

The following documents are required for the application:

  • the foreign school-leaving certificate qualifying for university entrance
  • a certified translation of the foreign school-leaving certificate qualifying for university entrance into German or English
  • proof of German language competence level C 1
  • APS certificate for applicants from China, India or Vietnam
  • All documents must be uploaded to uni-assist

If Ulm University accepts the application, the applicant is sent a notice of assignment for the chosen study programme indicating the specialisation and an invitation to the entrance test for the Studienkolleg Heidelberg (partner Studienkolleg of Ulm University).

The entrance test assessing German language competence takes place at the Studienkolleg Heidelberg in October.
