600. Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Seminar
Frontiers of Quantum Optics
Physikzentrum Bad Honnef, October 25 - 30, 2015
Scientific organizers: Gerd Leuchs and Wolfgang P. Schleich
This seminar is generously funded by the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation.
Scientific background
On December 20, 2013 the UN General Assembly proclaimed the year 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies. The 600. Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Seminar is part of this celebration and reviews recent activities in the field of quantum optics. Due to the various facets of this rapidly moving branch of physics it is difficult to stay up-to-date with all activities. For this reason we have devoted this seminar to an overview over Frontiers of Quantum Optics. In particular, we will cover the topics of
For each of these topics we have been able to attract lecturers whose pioneering works has formed these fields.
Structure of the seminar
Selected topics of quantum optics will be presented by talks and two poster sessions which will be introduced by one-minute poster flashes. The three best posters will receive a prize and the winners will be invited to present their work in a short talk (15 minutes talk plus 5 minute discussion). There will be plenty of time to discuss and study special topics in smaller groups. Moreover, an excursion with a subsequent wine tasting event will enhance the interaction between the participants.
In addition, there will also be a
Special session on the occasion of the 600. WE-Heraeus Seminar
followed by a reception and a gala dinner.
