The lab of Dr. Voss develops and uses advanced three-dimensional alveolar lung organoids to model the heterotypic cellular crosstalk in the lung alveolus and to decipher inflammatory processes triggered by environmental cues to understand chronic lung disease initiation. Using patient-derived iPS cells, the team of Dr. Voss also studies the effect of gene deficiencies on alveolar cell functionality. Single-cell transcriptomics, data integration approaches and high-throughput imaging identify target for future therapeutic interventions.
