Ulm University Association (Ulmer Universitätsgesellschaft e.V. - UUG) brings current research to the citizens. In the lecture series "Experience knowledge - Ulm University in the city centre", female scientists report on their field of expertise in a generally understandable way and present innovative processes or current developments. The topics of the 32nd lecture series in May range from quantum technology and Ulm University's application to the Excellence Strategy to digital support in surgical wards. Admission to the three lectures, each on Saturday morning (11:00 a.m.) at the Sparkasse Ulm on Hans-und-Sophie-Scholl-Platz, is free! All lectures will be held in German!
To kick off the new series, Professor Martin Plenio will speak on Saturday, 3 May, about the possibilities of quantum technology for medical imaging. The physicist, who heads the Institute of Theoretical Physics, is also co-founder of a start-up that aims to use quantum mechanical methods to revolutionise conventional magnetic resonance imaging and thus cancer treatment.
"Ulm University on the way to becoming a University of Excellence!" is the title of Professor Michael Weber's lecture on Saturday, 10 May. The University President will present the development of Ulm University and show how the University is the driving force behind the Science City of Ulm and thus the prosperity of the entire region. With these prerequisites and service performances, Ulm University is facing up to the competition as part of the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments with the aim of becoming a "University of Excellence Ulm".
Professor Florian Gebhard is dedicated to the medical "handiwork" of surgical wards. On Saturday, 17 May, the Medical Director of the Department of Trauma Surgery, Hand, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery will present the technical and digital options that have found their way into operating theatres today to make surgical procedures more effective and precise.
