Nationwide Night of Libraries in Ulm and Neu-Ulm
Book exchange market and lectures at the University West

Under the motto "Know. Share. Discover", libraries throughout Germany will shine brightly on Friday, 4 April 2025. On the nationwide Night of Libraries, all citizens are invited to discover their libraries or discover new ones. There will be a varied programme of readings, workshops, guided tours and other events.

In Ulm/Neu-Ulm, the Neu-Ulm City Library, the kiz (Kommunikations- und Informationszentrum - Communication and Information Centre) of Ulm University, the library of Ulm University of Applied Sciences and Ulm City Library are taking part in the nationwide Night of Libraries. All events are free of charge.

The library of Ulm University of Applied Sciences will open its doors to all interested parties on 4 April at the Prittwitzstraße campus from 8 am to 8 pm. A "hands-on demonstration" of the Repair Café will take place from 10 am to 11 am. Three half-hour coffee lectures will provide information on the following topics: "Standards in Nautos" at 11:30 am, "Researching current topics" at 1:30 pm and "Recognising disinformation" at 3:30 pm. In the afternoon there will be a book flea market from 12:30 pm to 4 pm. Two library tours round off the programme, in English at 1 pm in German at 5 pm.

Neu-Ulm City Library
The Neu-Ulm City Library will also be open for 12 hours during "Night", from 10 am to 10 pm. There will be a happy hour from 6 pm to 8 pm. Anyone who has a library card issued during these two hours will receive a free 3-month taster pass. There will be an all-day media flea market. Children can take part in a library rally from 6 pm to 8 pm or learn programming with Beebots. There will be a torchlight reading from 6 pm. There will be a games evening for adults and children aged 12 and over from 6 pm to 9 pm. Reading tips are available between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm during speed dating with books. At 8 pm, autor Julia K. Rodeit will read from her new novel.

kiz Library Centre of Ulm University
Popular books from all subject areas can be swapped from 8 am to 10 pm in the foyer of the Library Centre, Albert-Einstein-Allee 37. 
The following lectures will take place in the training room on the ground floor:
Charis Brem from kiz will speak from 4 pm to 4:30 pm about "How do I recognise fake news?". Dr Jonas Mirbeth, head of the Publication Management team at kiz, will provide information on "AI in final theses" and give practical tips from 4:30 pm to 5 pm. Head of the kiz (Communication and Information Centre), Prof. Dr Steffen Wenzel, will speak from 5 pm to 5:30 pm about "Internet censorship - an insight". Internet censorship means more than just blocking websites. The lecture offers an introduction and presents findings from current research. Open Access Officer at Ulm University Uli Hahn will report on "Openness and Citizen Science" from 5:30 pm to 6 pm. Between 6:15 pm and 9:45 pm, you will be given a personalised library tour under the motto "Book a Librarian" in German or English. The tour goes through the library centre at Oberer Eselsberg (from 1 person) and starts every half hour. Registration is not required.

Ulm City Library
For the Night of Libraries, the outstanding architecture of the glass pyramid will take centre stage. Opened in 2004, the Central Library designed by architect Gottfried Böhm continues to amaze visitors. The former director of the Central Library, Alexander Rosenstock, was on duty during the construction period and knows a lot about it. He gives two guided tours of the building, one at 6 pm and one at 8 pm. The tour lasts approx. 90 minutes. Participation is only possible with registration at stadtbibliothek(at)ulm.de.

In addition, the Central Library will be open as usual from 10 am to 7 pm.
