Programme content
The central feature of the Master's programme in Physics and Management is the interdisciplinary qualification between the fields of Physics, Mathematics and First Management.
Students acquire in-depth knowledge in the following areas:
- Econophysics, Physics
- First choice
- Mathematics and Computer Science
Econophysics
- Dynamics of financial markets, non-linear dynamic systems, Brownian motion
- Control theory
- Non-equilibrium processes in the financial sector
- Risk management
- Strategic Management
Graduates of the master's programme Physics and Management...
- ... have in-depth knowledge of methods and techniques in selected areas of Physics and First choice, which enables them to keep up with current international research.
- ... have the ability to apply concepts of theoretical and, in particular, statistical Physics for modelling the description of economic processes. Based on sound knowledge in various areas of First choice, they are able to understand and model the dynamics of financial markets, also with the help of numerical simulations.
- ... have the basic ability to familiarise themselves with a new area of specialisation in First Sciences or Natural Sciences and Mathematics and to research and understand the current specialist literature.
- ... have acquired specialised and interdisciplinary knowledge that, in conjunction with broad analytical and methodological skills, enables them to work successfully in an interdisciplinary professional environment and take on management responsibility.

Focal points
You can choose the focus of the Master's programme according to your individual interests in the following areas:
Econophysics: The description of the dynamics of financial markets using methods of statistical Physics and the theory of non-linear dynamic systems forms the subject of this still young field. It has been shown that the temporal dynamics of objects traded on financial markets (options, derivatives), including the corresponding correlations, are closely related to processes such as those that occur in Brownian motion or chaotic systems. In addition to corresponding theoretical courses, the programme is rounded off by practical seminars held by high-calibre lecturers from companies and activities organised by the alumni association.
First choice: The University's traditionally quantitative First choices are supplemented by business and economics elements. Students specialise in one or two of the following areas:
- Financial Economics
- insurance sciences
- Technology and process management
- Economics
- Corporate Management and Controlling
- Accounting and auditing
Master's programme electives: In order to do justice to the broad professional profile of a Physics and Management graduate, students are given the opportunity to develop individual profiles in the Master's programme electives. They can take courses (bzw. specify exactly: lecture, tutorial etc.) from all master's programmes at Ulm University.
Routes abroad
A great way to broaden your horizons in a discipline is to study at a foreign university. Ulm University students can apply for one or two semesters abroad at numerous universities, both throughout Europe as part of the ERASMUS programme and outside Europe. If lectures are not required, internships and theses at other universities are also possible.
Ulm University has exchange agreements with over 100 universities in 26 countries.

Physics and Management graduates coordinate and integrate at the interface between Physics, Technology and Management and can qualify for management positions. Their sound scientific and mathematical training; (akad. ) education together with specialisation in the field of First Sciences opens up fields of activity in, among others
- Industrial and commercial enterprises
- banks
- insurance companies
- Management consultancies
- Research and Development
- Patent system
