General information
In accordance with Section 60 (1) of the Federal State Higher Education Act Baden-Württemberg (LHG), enrolment as a student in a degree programme generally is only possible at one university.
Enrolment in two or more degree programmes with restricted admission is only permitted if this is necessary for special professional, academic or artistic reasons.
The application for parallel studies is submitted without an application in an informal letter to the person in charge at the Student Administration and Examinations Office.
The following applies to parallel studies at Ulm University:
- Parallel study of two or more admission-free degree programmes at Ulm University is possible without restrictions.
- Parallel study of one admission-restricted and one or more admission-free degree programmes at Ulm University is possible without restrictions.
- Parallel study of two or more admission-restricted degree programmes at Ulm University is only permitted if this is necessary for special professional, academic or artistic reasons. The application for parallel studies must be submitted informally to the Registrar's Office at Ulm University, stating the special professional or academic reasons. The application should be accompanied by a confirmation from the dean of studies confirming that there are special professional or academic reasons.
Other professional reasons exist if the second degree programme is necessary due to the professional situation for other reasons, in particular to compensate for a professional disadvantage or to expand the employment opportunities due to the first degree programme.
Academic reasons exist if a further academic qualification in a different degree programme is being sought with a view to later employment in science and research on the basis of previous academic and practical work.
- Parallel study at Ulm University and another university is generally not possible, as enrolment is generally only permitted at one university. In justified exceptional cases, parallel studies are possible (especially if the student is about to graduate from one university and no longer has to attend any courses). The application for such parallel studies must be submitted informally, including a justification. The other university must also agree to the parallel study programme.
- Parallel studies at Ulm University and at another university abroad do not fall under the regulations for parallel studies and therefore do not have to be approved.
