On November 24th 2009, the Institut für Quantenmaterie (Institute of Quantum Matter) was founded. It replaces the former Institut für Halbleiterphysik (Institute of Semiconductor Physics). The main focus of research is now on ultracold quantum gases. The Rubidium BEC experiment of Hecker Denschlag's group moved from Innsbruck to Ulm in September 2009, the Barium-Rubidium-Ion experiment (BaRbIE) followed in February 2010.
