"Bioblitz" and discovery rally in the Botanical Garden
Offers for families, children and during the lunch break

Ulm University

The Botanical Garden of Ulm University is kicking off 2025 with an extensive programme. In addition to popular events such as the summer fête and the colourful autumn, the garden team is also offering many special events for all age groups, including guided tours, lectures and workshops. The university institution is also once again taking part in the Germany-wide Botanical Garden Week - this time with a nationwide "Bioblitz", in which wild plants and animals are identified in many botanical gardens in Germany.

Important dates that all interested parties should make a note of: the summer fête together with the Friends of the Botanical Garden e. V. on Sunday, 29 June, from 14:00. The Colourful Autumn on Sunday, 5 October, will focus on the autumnal variety of fruits and mushrooms. It also starts at 14:00. This event only takes place in good weather.

As part of the Botanical Garden Week from 14 to 22 June, the Botanical Garden is organising a "Bioblitz". The aim of the format is to search for, identify and count wild plants and animals. All visitors to the Botanical Garden are invited to take part. Additional events present biodiversity and its importance for humans.

The popular, free botanical lunch breaks (every 3rd Thursday of the month, 12:15 pm) now all have a specific theme. The selection ranges from "Cacti and other desert plants" to the "Forest of dinosaurs". This year, biologist Wolfgang Decrusch's identification courses will focus on sweet and sour grasses and rushes. Once again, the Botanical Garden Ulm is offering the "Bronze" field botany certificate (4 July) in cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg Environmental Academy of the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector. This tests knowledge of 200 vascular plant species and their family affiliation.

The torch tours in the greenhouses (various dates in the winter half-year), the discovery rally "What lives in ponds, pools and ponds?" on Friday, 1 August, or the naturalists' club (April to August, six dates, 60 euros) are aimed specifically at children and families.

The Botanical Garden's outdoor area is open daily from 9:00 to 16:30 in the winter months (mid-October to the end of February). In the summer half-year (beginning of March - mid-October) it is open until 20:00.
The greenhouses are open every Tuesday and Thursday (13:00 to 15:00). In addition, every Sunday from 14:00 to 17:00 in the summer months and every first Sunday of the month from 14:00 to 16:00 in winter. Admission for adults is 3 euros.

The printed annual programme will be available to the public at many locations in Ulm and the region from the beginning of February.
