Welcome to the Integrated i3R Center Ulm
Let´s improve the 3Rs in animal research!
The 3R Center Ulm is a platform to integrate 6R activities at Ulm and “Um Ulm herum” (3R Network Baden-Württemberg)
Fields of work
- iR Network Prize to trigger 6R Networks
- Integration of 6R teaching in the biomedical studies
- Biobank for Animal Tissues
- Organoid Cultivating / Bioprinting
- Refinement Labs
- Stress / Burden assessments
- Public Outreach / Contact to Legislators

The 3R Center Ulm is part of the 3R network Baden-Württemberg and of the Bundesnetzwerk. We work on common task, for example education in laboratory animal science and 3R and scientific animal welfare"

Our Mission
Biomedical research relies on animal experiments, but innovative alternatives such as organoids, bioprinting and microfluidics offer increasingly promising solutions. Our goal at the integrated 3R Center (i3R Center Ulm) is to consistently promote the 3R principles (Replace, Reduce, Refine). By bundling existing activities and integrating them into the 3R Network Baden-Württemberg, we are driving the change towards the best possible irreplaceable animal experiments at the highest level with minimal stress and animal-free methods. By connecting the best possible methodologies, we will raise awareness among students, researchers, and the public and approving authorities, provide advice and resources, and develop new innovative approaches to make medical research more sustainable and ethical. Together, we set standards for future-oriented science.
