Prior to the application...
The Study Abroad Advisory Service supports you with academic questions, study planning, and course selection.
For general information about studying abroad and questions regarding the application process, the International Office is the responsible contact. Therefore, it is recommended to first make use of the International Office’s information services to decide on a suitable type of study abroad program and to inform yourself about application deadlines.
Course selection is then discussed with the Study Abroad Advisory Service, which also assists you in creating and finalizing the Learning Agreement.
Before the advising session, it is important to research the course offerings at the host university. Additionally, you should bring a current Transcript of Records. You are expected to have initial ideas about which lectures you plan to attend and how they fit into your study plan.
The fifth semester is ideal for a study abroad experience during a Bachelor’s program, as it allows sufficient time for planning. For a Master’s program, we recommend the third semester, since most compulsory courses are typically completed by then, allowing you to focus on elective courses while abroad.
However, studying abroad in other semesters is also possible. Be sure to check the academic calendar of your host university, as semester dates may differ significantly from those in Germany—especially if you plan to spend the summer semester abroad.
You will find a list including all partner universtities on the web pages of the International Office. The partners of the Faculty of Mathematics and Economics can be found under the above menu item "Programmes".
Yes, for further information, please see the web pages of the International Office.
In general, the earlier you start gathering information, the better! In some cases, application deadlines can be up to one year before the start of your study abroad experience. However, depending on the program, short-notice opportunities may also be available.
For university-wide programs, application deadlines can be obtained from the International Office. Faculty-specific programs have their own deadlines. For more details, please contact the respective program coordinators.
An academic year always begins with the winter semester and lasts for one year. It is usually divided into two semesters or three trimesters and may vary in structure depending on the country and university. Please note that semester dates can differ significantly from those in Germany.
It is best to schedule an individual advising appointment via email.
Additionally, we offer a subject-specific information session on study abroad opportunities once a year, at the beginning or middle of the summer semester. We will provide timely information about this event through the usual mailing lists, such as the Cauchykurier.

For more information about the recognition of study and exam achievements, please see the relevant web pages: Mathematics/Mathematics & Economics, Management & Economics and Computational Science and Engineering (CSE).
Once you have received the Transcript of Records from the host university, the recognition process can begin.
Please note that the application for recognition must be submitted within the semester following the completion of your studies and exams, as per § 19 Abs. 6 Rahmenordnung.
For a study abroad stay lasting more than one semester, the application for recognition must be submitted no later than six months after returning from abroad.
In the ERASMUS+ program, students are required to have the courses listed in the Learning Agreement recognized. If they fail to do so, the EU funding may potentially be revoked.
For most other programs, recognition is voluntary.
