Theory and practice optimally dovetailed - Mathematics and Management degree programme with in-depth practice in Actuarial Science
Last December, Daniel Lehmann, Linus Bialojan and Anton Makarov, graduates of the career-integrated degree programme with in-depth practical experience in Actuarial Science, received their degree certificates at a graduation ceremony at Allianz Lebensversicherung-AG. Together with several companies, Ulm University offers this innovative study concept, in which the Master's degree programme in Mathematics and Management is optimally interlinked with practical phases at the respective company and students receive attractive remuneration during their studies. "By closely supervising the students, we ensure that the practical phases are integrated into the degree programme in the best possible way. This also applies in particular to the seminar and master's theses, which are carried out in direct cooperation with the respective company and can deal with topics of practical relevance. In addition, examination achievements from Ulm University can be recognised for all examinations in basic actuarial knowledge (DAV) , which is a great benefit for later membership of the German Actuarial Association (DAV)," says programme coordinator Dr Stefan Schelling from the Institute of Insurance Science, describing the advantages of the programme.
Master's graduate Daniel Lehmann, who already took part in the programme during his Bachelor's degree and has now successfully completed his Master's degree in Mathematics and Management, describes the course and the programme as very enriching: "It was particularly enlightening to experience how the theoretical knowledge learned at University is applied in practice - whether in software development or in actuarial work. During my time in Ulm, I not only learnt a lot professionally, but also personally. I made close friendships that will last far beyond my studies and was able to discover and develop my interests and skills in dealing with complex problems. By studying with in-depth practical experience, I had the opportunity to make valuable practical contacts and apply theoretical knowledge directly." The fact that he decided to continue his studies with a part-time award of a doctoral degree at Ulm University shows just how much he enjoyed this experience. Linus Bialojan and Anton Makarov are continuing with a Master's degree in Mathematics and Management - again with in-depth practical experience, of course!
Ulm University is one of the world's leading universities in the field of Actuarial Science (actuarial mathematics) and currently offers the career-integrated degree programme with in-depth practical experience with Allianz Lebensversicherung AG as well as with AON, HBA Consulting AG and msg insur:it.
