Bachelor

The seminar offers students the opportunity to work on a topic of the field of accounting and auditing as well as in adjacent areas independently scientifically in a seminar paper (11-13 pages). The subjects offered are based on current developments and issues of the respective subject area.

The seminar is offered as a block course. Each participants has to give a presentation on his/her seminar paper, create a working paper, answer questions about his/her presentation in a brief discussion and to contribute by questions and active participation in discussions to the sessions in which the other participants give their presentations. Each topic is offered in principle a maximum of three times.


Master

The seminar offers students the opportunity to work on a topic in the field of accounting and auditing as well as in adjacent areas independently scientifically in a term paper (15-20 pages). The topics offered are based on current developments and issues of the respective subject area.

The seminar is offered as a block course. Each participant has to give a presentation based on the processed seminar paper, to create a working paper to answer questions about his presentation in a brief discussion and to contribute by questions and active participations in discussions to the sessions in which the other participants give their presentations. Each topic is offered in principle twice at the most.

Further Information

For students who have received a topic to work on within the topic assignment and have not written a seminar paper at the Institute of Accounting and Auditing, it is mandatory to participate in the subsequent “Introduction into scientific work”. To avoid study delay, preferably advanced students are given a seminar topic. Furthermore, participation in one of the two tutorials is mandatory for those students who write their first seminar paper at the Institute for Accounting and Auditing.

Each student who writes a seminar paper should at least meet their supervisor once for a discussion of the outline of the paper. The supervisors are also available by appointment for further questions on the seminar paper.

In addition to at least sufficient grade (4.0) in the seminar paper and the presentation, attending the lecture as well as active participation in the discussions of other seminar topics condition are mandatory

When writing a seminar paper the formal requirements for writing papers and theses of the Institute for Accounting and Auditing are to be considered. The students can receive them by e-mail or find them on the website of the Institute.

Hints for writing a paper

Besides outlining the procedure of the seminars and the Bachelor / Master thesis the hints for writing a paper shall make it easier for you to write your seminar or Bachelor's / Master's and diploma thesis.
Recommendations on content development and structuring are also included. In addition, in a separate chapter recommendations for the formal requirements of a scientific paper are given. While a meaningful content is the main goal of your work, a neat design and documentation of sources are also necessary. Because no matter how good the content is, it is only appreciated when it is presented clearly and concisely, easy to read and verifiable.
