Steffen Zimmermann is Professor of Business Administration with a focus on Digital Business and the Head of the Institute for Business Analytics at the University of Ulm. His research and teaching focuses on Digital Platforms & Markets, Digital Education & AI Literacy, and Green Information Systems.

Steffen Zimmermann was born in Göppingen and studied Business Administration at the University of Augsburg. He completed his studies in 2004, focusing on Information Systems, Financial Engineering, and the Economics of the Information Society. Following his studies, he began his academic career as a research assistant at the Chair of Information Systems, Information and Financial Management. In 2008, he obtained his doctorate with a dissertation on value-oriented IT portfolio management. During this time, he also served as managing director of FIM Finanz- & Informationsmanagement GmbH and worked as an independent business consultant on a variety of practical projects. Starting in March 2009, he continued his academic career at the Institute of Information Systems, Production Economics, and Logistics at the Leopold-Franzens University of Innsbruck, where he successfully completed his habilitation in 2014. In May 2017, he was appointed University Professor and assumed leadership of Information Systems III, focusing on Digital Enterprises and Digital Markets. Beginning in October 2019, he additionally headed the Institute of Information Systems, Production Economics, and Logistics at the University of Innsbruck. His international outlook is reflected, among other things, in his role as a Visiting Professor at the Department of Management Information Systems at the University of Calgary. There, he collaborates closely with Barrie Nault on research projects in the field of digital platforms and markets.

Steffen Zimmermann is the author of several contributions to leading international journals, such as Information Systems Research, the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, and the Journal of the AIS. In addition, he regularly presents his research findings at the major international conferences in the field of Information Systems, including the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), the Conference on Information Systems and Technology (CIST), and the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS).
