Physics and Management

Bachelor of Science (BSc)

Physics and Management

Physics and Management is an interdisciplinary field of research that uses physical and statistical theories to solve problems in economics and business administration. On the one hand, quantitative physical laws and models are applied to processes in Financial Economics (Econophysics), while on the other hand, it is investigated how physical laws influence the design of devices and processes in economic terms.

More about the course

The degree programme is for students interested in Natural Sciences who are open to economic viability and want to find their future job outside the traditional field of research. The Bachelor's degree programme is broadly based in terms of subject and method, starting with basic training in experimental and theoretical Physics and First choice. Compulsory elective modules or a voluntary Industrial placement allow students to specialise according to their own objectives.

Programme content

Physics and Management at Ulm is an integrated study/degree programme in which the subjects of Physics, Mathematics, First choice and Computer Science are closely intertwined. First choice and Computer Science are taught right from the start of the Bachelor's degree programme. However, the main focus of the training; (akad.: ) education - with a share of two thirds - is physics and Mathematics.

Enrollment

The Bachelor's degree course in Business Physics at the University of Ulm is not subject to admission restrictions. This means that everyone who meets the admission requirements will be offered a place. Enrollment is possible in the winter semester.

Career prospects

Industrial physicists are expected to obtain at least a Master's degree at university. The demand for Bachelor's graduates in industry is still low. The German Physical Society (DPG) has published a labor market analysis that can also be applied to the situation of industrial physicists.

By combining physics and economics, industrial physicists can coordinate and integrate at the interface between research, development and market implementation and qualify for management positions.
Their sound scientific and mathematical training, together with their specialization in the field of economics, opens up fields of activity for them, for example in

  • Industrial and commercial enterprises
  • Banks
  • Insurance companies
  • Management consultancies
  • Research and development
  • Patent system
