Eine fMRI Studie zur neuronalen Verarbeitung von Feedback durch einen Avatar
In our former study investigating the neural correlates of feedback processing in the situation of dialog based communication we could provide evidences that short unexpected temporal delays of feedback triggers strong activity in a large network of brain areas involved in attentional processes and action control. The feedback were simple visual signs indicating that the subjects response was correct or wrong. In the upcoming study, we intend to substitute the simple visual feedback by avatar like images. We use two avatars; one is responding with considerable delay (non-reliable) whereas the other responds immediately. The aim of this study is to determine whether a delayed response given by one compared to the other avatar also involves the network of brain areas activated in previous studies. In the pilot study with two subjects, we did not observe a strong modulation of brain activity by the delayed feedback presumably because the delayed response was always given by one but not the other avatar and was thus expected. However, we find differences in activation in a few brain areas including the fusiform gyrus that is involved in object processing.
