Driver-Vehicle Interaction Lab
Fully equipped static driving simulator
The static driving simulator with 190° field of view and two-seater mockup with flexible interior offers the opportunity to explore innovative concepts of automated, cooperative driver-vehicle interaction as well as driving behavior under a wide range of influencing factors. The focus is on the human being!
The driving simulator allows a realistic representation and realization of a wide variety of driving situations, full control over the structure and sequence of empirical studies, and precise data recording. In contrast to studies in real road traffic, it can be ensured in the driving simulator that each participant experiences the exact same situation. This makes it possible to draw empirically sound conclusions about the subject of the study in question.
Head-mounted and remote eye tracker
Eye-tracking technologies make it possible to track the driver's gaze behavior. This gaze data helps to understand how the driver collects and processes information from the environment. In addition, physiological data, such as pupil diameter, provide clues to emotional and cognitive processes. Thus, relevant influencing factors of the human-machine interface and the driving situation can be identified.
Low fidelity driving simulator and virtual reality glasses applicable in a programmed VR driving simulation
In addition, the low-fidelity driving simulator offers the possibility to conduct small studies, e.g. in the context of project seminars. It is based on the same simulation environment as the static driving simulator and is therefore mostly used for preliminary studies.
The virtual reality environment offers a high level of immersion through 360° viewing angles of the virtual driving situation and the simulated environment. Holistic interaction concepts can be tested here at an early stage of development.
