The EDOC 2014 conference and workshop proceedings have been published by the IEEE Computer Press. Professor Reichert was General Chair of the EDOC 2014 conference, which was organized by the DBIS team in Ulm, Germany, from 1st to 5th September 2014.

Hintergrund

About 150 experts from 25 countries participated at the EDOC 2014 conference in Ulm. Since 1997, the EDOC conference series has provided the key forum for researchers, decision makers, and practitioners in the field of Enterprise Computing. EDOC 2014 focused on the rapidly growing data overload in the data science age as well as its implications on business processes, products and services. “Big Data will affect companies as much as the Internet did at end of 1990s. A direct and fast access to huge amounts of data including the smart analysis as well as the automatic extraction of information and knowledge will offer entirely new opportunities to companies. However, at the very same time, companies’ IT systems face tremendous challenges regarding the proper processing of big data, no matter whether it is unstructured data from the Internet or structured one from sensors built in production machines,” Prof. Reichert explains (Opens external link in new windowInterview with Manfred Reichert).

Professor Reichert, director of the Database and Information Systems Institute [LINK], succeeded in bringing the renowned conference series, which had been hosted in Helsinki, Beijing, and Vancouver the years before, to Ulm. The EDOC conference series has been sponsored by IEEE, the world's largest association of technical professionals, since 1997. Among the hightlights of the conference was the Opens external link in new windowkeynote speech by Professor Wil van der Aalst (TU Eindhoven) on the the role of Big Data on the analysis and optimization of business processes. Further outstanding keynotes were delivered by Dr. Heiko Ludwig (IBM Research Centre, San José, US) and Professor Barbara Weber (University of Innsbruck, Austria) on Cloud Computing und Process Modeling.
