In the period from 10 to 14 August 2015, Martin Theobald held a lecture on “Information Extraction and Automatic Knowledge Base Construction” at the 25th International Summer School of Jyväskylä (Finland). With 39 participants, the course was one of the best-attended courses at this very traditional summer school, which attracts doctoral students, post-docs and master students from all over the world each year.
During this one-week course, students could gain an insight on the principles of both probabilistic and pattern-based information-extraction techniques from text sources and also practice their newly gained knowledge with practical programming tasks. The Jyväskylä Summer School turned into its 25th anniversary this year and offers a very diverse program of more than 30 courses from various technical and engineering-oriented disciplines ever since it started in 1990. A continuation of the course for 2016 is intended.
