For several years, the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISST) has been working on innovative and sustainable IT solutions for flexible processes in healthcare and logistics. For implementing processes (e.g., clinical pathways) in these two challenging application domains, Fraunhofer relies on the AristaFlow BPM Suite (formerly ADEPT2). This adaptive process management technology has resulted from long-standing research work conducted at the University of Ulm under the special direction of Prof. Dr. Peter Dadam and Prof. Dr. Manfred Reichert. Thereby, for the first time flexible and adaptive process solutions can be realized by using modern process management technology.
Background: Since processes in healthcare as well as logistics are characterized by high dynamis and thus actual process execution often deviates from the planned process schema, the support of ad-hoc adapations constitutes an indispensable feature of any process-aware information system. When Fraunhofer evaluated existing process management technologies in respect to their flexibility features, AristaFlow BPM Suite was chosen as the by far most advanced software solution. In the meantime, Fraunhofer successfully implemented several advanced application scenarios based on the AristaFlow BPM Suite.
