AristaFlow BPM Suite Successfully Presented to International Audience

Ulm University

At the Seventh International Conference on Business Process Management (BPM'09) in Ulm, DBIS has very successfully demonstrated its AristaFlow BPM Suite to the international audience. With more than 300 participants, BPM'09 conference has been the most distinguished specialized forum for world-class researchers and practitioners in business process management in 2009. BPM'09 attracted innovative research of highest quality related to all aspects of business process management including theory, frameworks, methods, techniques, architectures, and empirical findings.

The AristaFlow BPM Suite provides an innovative and flexible process management technology, which enables quick and error-safe development of robust process-aware information systems (Poka-Yoke-Workflows). Furthermore, AristaFlow BPM Suite sets new standards in respect to flexible process execution during runtime. The AristaFlow technology has had its roots in several research projects (e.g., ADEPT1, ADEPT2 and AristaFlow) that have been conducted at our DBIS institute. In the meantime, the AristaFlow BPM Suite is further enhanced and distributed by a spin-off of our institute - the AristaFlow GmbH.

At the conference, first of all, we demonstrated how one can rapidly develop new processes in a "plug & play"-like fashion using the AristaFlow Process Template Editor. In particular, its built-in capability of "correctness by construction" helps to implement Poka-Yoke Workflows (i.e., error-free processes). Following this, we showed how a newly implemented process can be easily deployed to the AristaFlow runtime components and then be flexibly executed. In particular, this includes advanced functions for realizing ad-hoc process changes on-the-fly, but without losing control or affecting system robustness. A screencast of the given demo is available (Download). It also shows how one can apply ad hoc changes at process instance level either for fast prototyping or for coping with unforeseen events during process execution.

Altogether, the international BPM audience was enthusiastic about the innovative functions and components provided by the AristaFlow BPM Suite. Amongst others, both researchers and practioners were impressed to see that innovative technology that has developed in the DBIS institut over a decade, has now become an industrial-strength process management system.
