Driven by recent trends, effective compliance control has become a crucial success factor for companies nowadays. In this context, verification of process models against imposed compliance rules is a promising strategy. However, the existence of explicitly specified process models cannot always be assumed, e.g., if process instances are scattered over several information systems. In this talk, we introduce an approach for compliance monitoring based on equipping compliance rule graphs (CRG) with an operational semantics. This enables the system to monitor compliance of business processes (even without existing model) by executing CRGs in accord with observed events. As a result, the compliance state of a running process instance is reflected in the execution marking of the corresponding CRG. In addition, CRG execution enables the provision of compliance reports at different levels of granularity, i.e., reports on the overall compliance state, but also on compliance states of particular activations of a CRG. Based on this, process supervisors can apply specific remedy strategies in case of violations.
