Automated Planning
Intelligent task planning is concerned with the automatic generation of structured action courses (called plans) which satisfy a desired goal when executed. Depending on the field of application, these plans may be operations to be executed by technical devices in order to show a desired behavior or they correspond to activities or jobs to be carried out by humans as in logistics, applications planning or management of work flows.
The hybrid planning approach developed at this institute and its implementation within the PANDA architecture (Planning and Acting in a Network Decomposition Architecture) are aimed at a real application of that technology. Our research topics are devoted to several challenges arising from that enterprise.
One of our focuses lies on user-centered planning, where plans are generated for a human user. This encompasses planning under uncertainty, fast and user-specific plan generation, plan explanation, plan repair, interactive planning, plan recognition, and modelling of formally sound planning domains.
