Data management in EU projects and DFG projects
Data Management Plan
What is a DMP?
A data management plan (DMP) is a document in which researchers describe what data they plan to collect or reuse in their project or research, and how the data will be collected, organized, processed, analyzed, described, stored, and, if applicable, published - from the research question to the reuse of the data.
Below you will find a collection of templates and examples.
When do I write a DMP?
The first version of a data management plan should be created before the start of a project or in the initial phase of a project and then kept up to date. Addressing the relevant issues early on may prevent problems from arising during the course of the project or after the project has ended. Such problems can be, e.g. that data is lost, insufficiently documented and thus incomprehensible, or that subsequent reuse in other contexts is not possible because consent was not obtained for this.
Projects in Horizon 2020 that participate in the Open Research Data Pilot should complete a DMP as a deliverable no later than 6 months after the start of the project and then keep it up to date.
