The service includes the conceptual planning and implementation of technical equipment (e.g. beamers, microphones, etc.), their maintenance as well as the support of the local contact persons (demonstration nurses) during operation in the form of 2nd level support.

The service is provided in particular for the central classrooms (lecture halls and seminar rooms) of the university. Central classrooms are those rooms which are available in the central room occupancy system of the university and are marked as central classrooms there.

In addition, the service for other rooms (rooms of individual institutes, non-central teaching rooms of individual faculties or study commissions) can be used after consultation and for a fee.

Service description

General information

  • Contact via helpdesk for customer enquiries regarding new equipment, replacement purchases of media technology and operational problems.

Planning and implementation of auditorium media technology

  • Conception of the basic equipment for the central teaching rooms. For the equipment and modernisation of central teaching rooms with media technology, kiz applies for central funds to finance the measures (usually from the University President's Office). Drawing up a detailed list of services and, together with the ZUV, organising a call for tenders. In individual cases, external companies are also commissioned with planning tasks.
  • Coordinating communication between all parties involved in construction and equipment measures (users, building management, building office, the engineering office commissioned by the latter, electrical company, media technology company, central workshop, ceiling builder).
  • Contact person for the media technology company carrying out the installation.
  • Acceptance of the media technology (documentation, function tests, troubleshooting checks if necessary, instruction of the lecturers) and transfer of the components to regular operation.
  • For the institute's own rooms: Advice and assistance in determining requirements, preparation of a cost estimate for the user as a reference for their budget planning or application.

 

Operation and maintenance of the central rooms (2nd level support)

  • Proactive maintenance and quality checks are carried out twice a year to ensure that the technical equipment is working properly. If necessary, wearing parts such as projector lamps, batteries and connection cables are replaced.
  • 2nd level support for questions and problems from the local contact persons appointed by the faculties, usually the lecturers, who must provide 1st level support (on-site user instruction, troubleshooting). If there is no lecturer in individual rooms, instruction or troubleshooting may be carried out directly by members of the Communication & Multimedia Infrastructure team
  • Operation of various software systems associated with media technology (room database, monitoring system, domain manager for the audio network)
  • Elimination of technical defects (if necessary by commissioning an external company)
  • Training and instruction of local contacts.
  • Electrical equipment testing of the media technology and equipment hire equipment.

User groups

All members, affiliates and institutions of the University who organise or attend courses or other events in the central teaching rooms or use the service for other rooms.

The use of services for the planning and implementation of lecture theatre media technology is limited to Ulm University institutes outside of central teaching rooms and only takes place to the extent that our resources permit.

Application conditions

The service can be used without a separate request.

Charges / Fees

No fees are charged for the service if it concerns central classrooms of the university.

For other rooms, the service is not free of charge. According to the Entg&GebO, reimbursement of expenses as well as working hours are charged according to the hourly rates of the remuneration list and charged to the user's cost center.
