Textbook collection
The textbook collection contains much requested and frequently used study literature in a larger number of lending copies. The collection comprises around 36,000 volumes from all subject areas of the University of Ulm. Borrowing is only possible with a valid ID (chip card). Textbooks are freely accessible on the ground floor of the library headquarters, and there is a non-lending reference copy of each title from the latest edition. The maximum number of simultaneous loans from the textbook collection is 15 copies. Beyond that, the same lending conditions apply as for the rest of the lending stock in the Central Library.
Course reserves
for courses of the current semester. Books that are in the semester collection cannot be borrowed during this time. The volumes are marked either with the name of the lecturer or the subject of the course. You will find the semester collections on the ground floor of the Central Library and the Helmholtzstr. library.
Mobile devices
Notebooks, tablets (iPad Air, iPad Mini, Samsung Galaxy Tab S), Tolino Vision e-book readers, Epson beamers, USB sticks (16 GB), headphones, Apple VGA adapters and Kensington security locks can be borrowed by members of Ulm University at the Lending Service Point in the Library Central Office. The loan period is 14 days with the possibility of an extension.
New acquisitions
Newly acquired books are displayed on the acquisitions shelf for one week and cannot be borrowed during this time, but can be reserved via the Online catalogue.
In the catalogue you can also call up lists of new acquisitions sorted by subject. Titles from the last four months are listed on a daily basis. One click from the hit display takes you to the full display, which shows you the location and lending status of the title and makes further details (tables of contents, etc.) available. You can order or reserve the title immediately.
Presence stock
Manuals and much sought-after standard works, as well as loose-leaf editions and a number of reference works and bibliographies are not available for loan. Overnight or weekend lending may be possible. There are high overdraft fees for unpunctual return.
Dissertation
Dissertations written at the University of Ulm can be found in the Central Library in the basement (Kompaktmagazin) as well as on the Open Access Repository of the University of Ulm (OPARU).
Reference collection
With a reference collection, academic staff have the opportunity to place literature from the library collection that is important for their research at their workplace in the institute for a longer period of time. Reference collections have an unlimited loan period, but also have upper limits regarding their scope. Please direct enquiries about setting up a reference collection to a contact person in the information department.
Please also refer to the information sheet on reference collections (german). On request (order in the online catalogue), it is also possible for other customers to borrow media that are on a reference collection in an institute.
Psychological tests
Psychological tests are only made available to the public on a limited basis in order to guarantee the value of the test procedures in the long term. The loan or inspection of these tests is exclusively for information in the context of research and teaching. It is therefore only made available to users who can demonstrate such an interest (students and employees of the Institute of Psychology and Education as well as persons with psychological training).
