Who we are

The Communication and Information Center (kiz) is a central operating unit of the University of Ulm according to § 28 LHG. It provides library, IT and media services for the University and its members.

Profile

The kiz was established in February 2002 as the first information centre according to the new Baden-Württemberg State University Law. It was made up of the central institutions University Library and University Computer Centre as well as the Centre for Photography, Graphics and Reproduction and the Language Communication Department of the University Administration. In the kiz the competences and tasks around the information and communication supply of the university were bundled. The creation of a holistic, integrated information management enables a consistent service orientation of the kiz.

In the sense of this orientation, the services are in the foreground in the perception of the kiz by its users, while the formal organizational structure takes a back seat. The work steps required to provide the services have been meaningfully grouped and are represented in five service departments: Information systems, media, infrastructure, information supply and information media.

The sixth department, Service Management & Organisation, has a cross-sectional function. This is where the processes for kiz-wide uniform service management are organized, where financial and personnel management for all departments is supervised, and where administrative business processes are defined.
