Master’s Thesis
Regulations for the Master's thesis module are contained in the General Framework and the subject-specific study and examination regulations (FSPO). In particular, Section 10 of the FSPO must be observed: "The application for admission to the master's thesis must be submitted no later than six months after the last module examination."
Procedure
When you register your master's thesis, please consider the following procedure:
- Find a topic and examiner
You will determine the topic of your Master's thesis together with your thesis supervisor. Your supervisor is also the first reviewer (1st examiner) of your Master's thesis.
The 2nd examiner is your second reviewer.
Both examiners are generally university teachers, qualified to teach and supervise doctoral candidates, academic staff (member) of the respective faculty to whom the examination authorisation has been transferred, as well as contract lecturers.
- Application for admission to the Master's thesis + Transcript of Records
As soon as you have discussed and agreed your topic with your supervisor, complete the application for admission to the Master's thesis. This should be signed by everyone and sent to the SAPS office and the Studiensekretariat (student administration and examinations office).
You should also state the start date of your Master's thesis on the form.
Attach an extract from your "Transcript of Records" so that it can be verified that you have achieved the 48 credit points required for admission to the Master's thesis.
- Notification of fees
You will then receive a notification of fees, which must be paid immediately.
Miscellaneous
The content of your Master's thesis is planned using the official form "Outline of the work plan", which you agree with the supervisor of your Master's thesis.
If you have an external supervisor, you can enter their contact details in the application for admission to the Master's thesis. You should always discuss this with your university supervisor.
The external supervisor is not another reviewer, but can make a recommendation.
Submission
Master's theses must be submitted to the Studiensekretariat (student administration and examinations office) in due time. Direct submission to the reviewers is not permitted.
The master's thesis must be submitted on time in the form of a PDF file. This is only possible by e-mail; CD-ROMs and USB sticks are not accepted. If the file is too large to be sent by e-mail, please upload it using the link below and enter studiensekretariat(at)uni-ulm.de as the destination address.
